SOMETHING ABOUT Nedra, by Nedra.
I grew up in a rural farming community in Kansas, attending a one-room country school. When the older children were reciting their lessons at the front of the room, I could be found bent over my desk drawing horses and dogs. In the 1980’s I began to concentrate almost exclusively on dogs and since that time, my drawings and paintings have been collected by private patrons all over the U.S.
Every portrait begins with the eyes; a dog’s most expressive feature. I love to capture the depth and detail reflected there; and terriers are one of my very favorite subjects because of their keen “miss nothing” expressions.
My work has been exhibited in art galleries around Chicagoland and “juried” into many local art shows. In the last year, I have taken a “sabbatical” from dog portraiture to study and paint terriers doing what they love. “Morning Hunt” is one of those paintings – two little terriers keen on discovering what hides in the earth beneath the stile.
